In the past month I have made quite a few cakes. 3 to be exact, One for mothers day, one for fathers day, and another cake for my friends anniversary.
The first cake was made for mothers day. The flavour of cake that I made is a favourite in our house. we make it a lot. I know my mom likes it so of course I had to make the so easy chocolate cake. The filling between the cakes was a salted caramel icing. This filling was something I had never tried before, but it turned out great. Next was to ice the cake. First I did the crumb coat or as my mom says "the scratch coat" which I had never done before. After that's done it was time to decorate.
I was trying to come up with ideas on what to do on the cake, and then I remembered I say this video where she did a water colour effect on the cake. It was pretty I had to do it, but the next question was what colours to do. I looked at my colours and see what paired good with what. I decided on pink and yellow. How got that effect was I put a couple dots of each colour around the cake, and then I smoothed it over with my cake scrapper. This turned out pretty good. On the top I used my star tip to pipe flowers on the top. And the cake was finished and eaten.
The next cake that I made was for Fathers day.
The flavour of this cake is the same so easy chocolate cake I used for my moms cake with the same caramel filling with chunks of toblerone. I found this cake by scrolling on Instagram seeing this post from Wilton. https://www.wilton.com/happy-fathers-day-cake/WLPROJ-8925.html#start=7 When I saw this cake I knew that I had to make it for my dad, because it had all the things he loves on it.
This cake I thought would be a little tricky to do. I thought that it would be hard to pipe the shapes onto the cake, I was trying to think of different ideas. I had the idea of a buttercream transfer. This is when you pipe your buttercream onto parchment paper and freeze it, after I crumb coated the cake I took out the buttercream. the buttercream was supposed to be frozen so you could take them off and place them on the cake. sadly this did not work out so I put them on like a temporary tattoo, It surprisingly work out.
for my friends anniversary cake they wanted flowers. I wasn't quit sure how I wanted to do this, but I had a lot of ideas running through my head. I went to the Wilton website to get some inspiration.
I was shopping one day and I came across these flower tips, I thought I could use this for the cake.
On this cake I used the same technique on the side of the cake, as I did on the mothers day cake. It is called the water colour technique. The top of the cake I decided I wanted to put a K+B on the top, First I outlined the words with blue icing, and then I put flowers all around it.
I finished the cake of by putting flowers around the bottom.
I hope these cakes will inspire something in you. I had fun creating all of these, and eating them!
I can't wait to create more treats. I hope you enjoyed it.
